NQIB Stride4Stroke: A Personal Journey Inspires Group-wide Action

North Queensland Insurance Brokers (NQIB) believes in the power of community and the importance of giving back. In 2024, we’re proud to announce our increased support for the Stroke Foundation’s Stride4Stroke Challenge, including a significant $10,000 donation through ACT Australia and a group-wide commitment to Moving Minutes this November.

Did you know that every 19 minutes someone in Australia experiences their first stroke?

Stroke is one of Australia’s biggest killers and doesn’t discriminate; it affects anyone, anytime, even unborn babies. It claims more lives than breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. And incredibly, around 600 Australian children experience stroke each year.

This cause is deeply personal to many Australians, including a valued member of our team.

A Young Life Changed

In October 2019, Jade Bolam, a vibrant 22-year-old from NQIB’s Ayr office, experienced a life-altering event – a mild stroke. The stroke affected the right side of her brain, causing paralysis to the left side of her body.

Jade’s journey to recovery was challenging but inspiring. After two weeks in hospital, she embarked on an intensive program of physical and mental therapy. Today, five years later, Jade is living a healthy and active life, enjoying all the activities she loved prior to her stroke.

Why We Stride

As a much-loved colleague, Jade’s experience highlighted the reality of strokes and their impact on individuals and families, as well as the crucial role that organisations like the Stroke Foundation play in supporting survivors and funding research.

The Stride4Stroke event is more than just a fundraiser for us – it’s a way to support Australians who face similar challenges.

Join Us in Making a Difference

We’re calling for our colleagues, clients, partners, and community to join us in supporting this important cause. Whether you choose to participate in the Stride4Stroke Moving Minutes Challenge in November, make a donation, or simply help spread awareness, every action counts.

Together, we can run, walk, dance, yoga, swim or ride towards a future where the impact of strokes are minimised.
